Commodities and Shipping Club

Our
mission

CASC exists to open the physical commodity and shipping industries to Northeastern students: to teach how raw materials are produced, priced and moved around the world, and to connect members with the firms that do it.

In one sentence

“Understand the markets that keep the lights on, the shelves stocked and the ships at sea.”

What we do

From the classroom to the trading floor

I

Weekly analyst briefs

Every desk publishes a one-page brief each week: the story, the numbers, the exhibits and what to watch.

II

Speaker sessions

Traders and analysts from physical and financial houses walk us through how their markets actually work.

III

Info sessions & training

Desk-led primers on metals, energy shipping, power, fertilizer and freight derivatives.

IV

Recruiting support

Resume reviews, mock interviews and introductions for co-ops and internships across the trade.

Our story

A short history

  1. Fall 2025

    CASC is founded

“Meet CASC” goes up on Instagram, and the first general meeting fills Ryder Hall 270 on October 8th. Info sessions on Energy Shipping and Metals follow, plus a recruitment info session in Hastings 106.

  2. Spring 2026

    The speaker series

Traders from Vitol and Chevron lead sessions on power trading, copper and natural gas liquids. A pizza mixer in Kariotis Hall introduces the e-board, and e-board applications open.

  3. Fall 2026

    Four desks, weekly research

The club reorganizes into Energy, Metals, Agriculture and Shipping desks, each led by desk heads and publishing weekly analyst briefs.
